Grand Seiko celebrates 50th anniversary of quartz

Grand Seiko's Heritage collection celebrates the important anniversary of the introduction of the quartz movement in watchmaking by the Seiko Watch Corporation (in 1969) with a quartz timepiece produced in a limited edition of 2,019 pieces. With this unprecedented creation, employing the 9F86 calibre, Grand Seiko redefines the notion of a quartz watch by offering great performance combined with excellent reliability. In order to meet the high standards demanded by the brand, the 9F calibre incorporates numerous innovations that ensure excellent precision and durability. Seiko's engineers have introduced mechanical solutions to remedy certain inaccuracies considered unacceptable and incompatible with the brand's objectives in terms of timekeeping accuracy. These include the 'automatic discontinuity adjustment mechanism', a system that measures the temperature of the movement 540 times a day, and the development of the double-impulse torque (the seconds hand moves two clicks per second instead of one): the power of the double-impulse torque arms the spring which, when disarmed, triggers the instantaneous change of the date in 1/2,000 of a second. In keeping with the aesthetic codes of the Heritage line, the timepiece offers essential lines of great elegance combined with the accuracy of every single detail. The 40 mm diameter steel case surrounds a bright blue dial, animated by a motif reminiscent of the shape of quartz crystals that further celebrates the theme of this limited edition. The dial also features golden details, the Grand Seiko logo, the GMT and seconds hand, as well as hour markers and numerals marking the minutes. The steel case and bracelet define the figure of this creation, classic yet with a contemporary appeal. Heritage by Grand Seiko is the contemporary reference line of the timeless watch, a collection that combines extreme care in achieving aesthetic purity with the highest expression of technical craftsmanship and the artisanal skills of Grand Seiko's master watchmakers.
