H. Moser & Cie.: three new Vantablacks available online

H. Moser & Cie. offers the possibility of purchasing its creations via an online sales platform, on the e-commerce page of the site accessed by clicking here link. Among the models available now are the three new editions of the Vantablack with which it celebrates its launch. The three models - the 43-millimetre steel Venturer or the 39-millimetre white gold Venturer, or the 42-millimetre steel Endeavour Tourbillon with black DLC coating, in a limited edition of 50 - feature a dial in an absolute black, never before produced by artificial means, traversed only by the burnished hour and minute hands, and thus without any logos or indices on its surface. Vantablack, a material developed for the field of astrophysics and used for telescopes and in the military for thermal mimesis (to increase the invisibility level of certain equipment), consists of carbon nanotubes 10,000 times thinner than a human hair, lined up next to each other, is resistant to shocks and vibrations and is extremely delicate to handle. Since our eyes need reflected light to perceive what we are looking at, this material - absorbing 99.965% of light - is perceived as an absence of matter, like a black hole. The story of these three clocks began with a joke. On 1 April 2019, H. Moser & Cie. posted on social media, as an April Fool's joke, a doctored photo of a watch with a black dial and burnished hands, which were therefore invisible. Faced with the wave of requests from interested customers and the buzz aroused, the company actually considered the idea.
