Record for TAG Heuer Monaco
by Steve McQueen

During the 'Racing Pulse' auction held by Phillips in New Your on 12 December, a TAG Heuer Monaco belonging to Steve McQueen sold for a record $2,208,000. It is the most expensive Heuer timepiece ever sold at auction. This Heuer Monaco had been worn by Steve McQueen during the filming of the movie 'The 24 Hours of Le Mans', and later given by the actor to his personal mechanic Haig Alltounian, who had assisted him during filming. The watch thus set a sales record during the 'Racing Pulse' auction, which was held the day before yesterday in New York by Phillips in collaboration with Bacs & Russo. It is the most important Heuer timepiece ever in terms of sales value at auction, as well as one of the most iconic watches of the 20th century. TAG Heuer CEO Frédéric Arnault said: "Steve McQueen's Heuer Monaco has not only become one of the most recognisable and celebrated watches of the last century, it has also shaped the culture of TAG Heuer. We were honoured by the excitement that the watchmaking community conveyed during the auction, and this extraordinary result is a testament to the historical importance and legacy of this Heuer watch."
