Ressence presents the new Type 3W, a brand new version of the revolutionary Type 3, featuring a white dial, which makes its debut in an oil-filled mechanical watch. The genesis of the Type 3 begins with the ROCS - Ressence Orbital Convex System, an exclusive (and patented) watch module developed in-house and consisting of discs and dials that continuously rotate around each other. This results in a clearer reading of the time. The information is in fact displayed on a single plane, which makes it easier to read because it is intuitive and two-dimensional. This display differs from that of a traditional watch where the overlapping of the hands on the dial produces an irregular plane of vision. Consisting of 215 elements, the ROCS gears calculate the hours, day and date, taking only the minute as the reference for the automatic movement. Launched in 2013, the Type 3 is the first mechanical watch filled with oil. A true feat of haute horlogerie, this revolutionary watch was designed with a 'water drop' effect dial. To do this, Ressence uses applied science. The eye suddenly loses its depth perception because oil and glass share very similar reactions to the refraction of light. The result is that the watch face seems closer, the vision is not obstructed by the glass. The Type 3W builds on this evolution, introducing the very first white dial to a watch immersed in oil, offering freshness, clarity and a sense of modernity that have become synonymous with the brand. The creation of the Type 3W and its predecessors was not without its challenges, allowing the Ressence team to "stimulate" the neurons of engineering and creativity and further position itself at the forefront of 21st century watchmaking. One example of this challenge is the ability of the escapement to oscillate correctly in a viscous fluid. Ressence therefore ingeniously designed a two-part system inside the Type 3 to separate the mechanical movement from the oil. The lower part comprises the modified automatic movement, while the upper part is hermetically sealed with the ROCS display module immersed in 35.7 ml of oil. With this two-part system, there can be no direct mechanical connection between the movement and the ROCS. The Type 3 therefore uses a magnetic drive that links several micro-magnets together. They are positioned both in the upper oil-filled part and in the lower, so-called dry part. In order to compensate for fluctuations in the volume of oil (as a function of temperature), the watch is equipped with a system of seven small bellows that stretches and contracts as the volume of oil increases or decreases. The system is indirectly connected to the temperature indicator on the dial so that the user can follow the bellows in action. The white discs offer a striking visual contrast with the black and grey indications (filled with extra-strong Superluminova). Intuitive in its vision and movement, discreet in its aesthetics, the Type 3W is a perfect example of 21st century watchmaking according to Ressence, eliminating optical complexities and superfluous elements to create a timeless object that inspires the imagination.
