Record-breaking Rolex

artcurialFrom 17 to 19 July, the new Artcurial auction event dedicated to selected jewellery, watches and the Hermès Summer Collection was held at the Hotel Hermitage in Monte Carlo. Collectors from all over the world, from Asia, America, Russia and European countries, together with a large number of Monegasque buyers, did battle under the hammer of François Tajan, auctioneer at Artcurial and Deputy Director of Artcurial SAM (Société Anonyme Monégasque). This session saw an increase in the overall volume of jewellery sales, in particular thanks to two precious creations that were sold for over €500,000. As for watches, after only three hours of auction, more than 72% of the lots present were sold (207 being the total number of lots auctioned signed by the major international brands such as Rolex, Bulgari, Patek Philippe, Cartier, Omega, Piaget, Vacheron Constantin, Audemars Piguet), for a total value of €2,254,350. Great sales success for Rolex: the top lot of the auction was the unmissable Rolex Daytona "Panda" Ref. 6263, a chronograph with metal strap made around 1971, sold to a European collector for the extraordinary sum of €244,600 (the initial estimate was between €200,000 and €300,000).
