TAG Heuer goes electric

3-Gen2 Formula E - Cityscape 5The first Formula E GP in Italy took place yesterday along the streets of Rome's EUR district. TAG Heuer, Founding Partner and Official Timekeeper of the Formula E World Championship, the first world championship for all-electric single-seaters, welcomed teams and drivers. Many celebrities attended the event, including American actress Sienna Miller, Prince Albert of Monaco, Flavio Briatore and the Mayor of Rome Virginia Raggi. For the occasion, the Swiss company also announced an important new zero-emission partnership. It is the collaboration with Giro E, the pioneering electric bike version of the Giro d'Italia. The announcement was made through a spectacular challenge of a Formula E single-seater to an E-bike that took place in Rome on the same EUR street circuit that the Italian Formula E stage takes place on. The exceptional drivers were Giancarlo Fisichella at the wheel of the single-seater and emerging Italian cycling star Gianni Moscon riding the bike, both of course in electric version. Whenever a 'fast and green' competition is born, TAG Heuer chooses to be part of it. The same enthusiasm that led the Swiss brand to become Founding Partner of the first electric Formula 1 championship, therefore also ignites passion on two wheels. Official Timekeeper for the second season of one of the most fascinating cycling competitions in the world, the Giro d'Italia, TAG Heuer is therefore proud to announce its partnership with its "electric" section, the Giro E, for this season a Concept Tour. The 2018 Giro E is therefore the "zero" season of the innovative version of the Giro d'Italia on electric bikes, aimed at non-professional cyclists. The same circuit of the Giro, will be covered for this year in a demonstration and non-competitive version by groups of amateur cyclists riding E-bikes for an exciting performance. The partnership between TAG Heuer and Formula E was signed on 15 May 2013. The Swiss watch brand joined the project out of the blue, precisely because of its great affinity with the new, futuristic motor racing championship. The peculiarity of the Formula E championship is that it is raced on city circuits. The challenge for TAG Heuer is therefore to set up the entire timing system for each stage only 24 hours before the start of the race, without intervening in any way in the environment or changing the urban landscape. In city centres it is not possible to drown transponders as is done on Formula 1 circuits.TAG Heuer is also the only watch brand on billboards along the circuits and in all the championship cities. TAG Heuer is proud to be Founding Partner and Official Timekeeper of this innovative championship. Passion for motorsport has fuelled the Swiss watch brand from the very beginning. The link with Formula E is therefore a natural evolution, building on the brand's unprecedented connection with motor racing and its commitment to sustainability. A fusion of engineering, technology, sport, science and design, united to promote change towards a better future. From its partnership in Formula One with the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing Formula One Team, to its new partnership with Aston Martin as Official Watch Partner and Official Timekeeper of Aston Martin Racing, to its partnerships with Gulf Oil and Monaco Top Cars Collection, to cutting-edge events such as Formula E, TAG Heuer's passion for motorsports is expressed in all its possible forms. As the first watch brand to measure 1/100th, 1/1,000th, 1/10,000th of a second, TAG Heuer's timekeeping expertise has always been at the service of the motor racing universe, to improve the quality of timekeeping and make it ever more competitive.
