Ulysse Nardin and its new-generation Freak

The latest addition to the Freak collection, the Freak neXt concept watch marks a new technical direction for Ulysse Nardin. This prototype watch is equipped with a baguette movement featuring a 3D flying oscillator with flexible silicon blades. This is an oscillating regulating device that eliminates the central pivot, its centre being literally suspended in vacuum. The direct result of this system is the total suppression of bearing friction, optimising the overall quality and thus the energy consumption of the movement, the self-winding UN-25X calibre with Grinder, a revolutionary system twice as efficient as existing systems. The oscillator, composed of 32 silicon micro-blades, 16 micrometres wide, connected to each other without any contact with the plate - and forming 16 overlapping triangles on 4 parallel layers - beats at an ultra-performance frequency of 12 Hz, enabling a considerable power reserve of 70 hours. The frequency has been multiplied by three, thus increasing the 30%'s power reserve. The Freak neXt displays a high-tech and ultra-contemporary look, characterised by the use of white and phosphorescent touches that set off this latest invention from the House. The bridge of the baguette movement (the gear train) takes a slightly trapezoidal shape and is framed by four luminescent tubes filled with SuperLuminova for a phosphorescent effect that is only visible at night. A small logo in the colours of Ulysse Nardin, placed on a transparent lens made of glass using a 3D subtractive manufacturing process, completes the decoration of the baguette movement. The watch is offered with a white SuperLuminova bezel, white side plates also made of SuperLuminova, and is fitted with a movement winding support on the caseback. The rubber strap is white with white stitching and dark blue stitching.
