Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey present Art Piece 1

Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey announce their participation in the Shanghai Contemporary Art Fair on 6 September 2012 to present Art Piece 1, their first artistic co-creation with world-renowned micro-sculptor, Willard Wigan. In parallel, this work - in progress - will also be exhibited at the Time Art GalleryGF in Bund 18, Shanghai - from 7 to 9 September. It is a revolving hemispherical structure that stages several micro-sculptures, easily visible thanks to a specially made optical system. The ensemble will be a veritable tour de force in terms of innovation, architecture and technical complexity. The Art Piece 1 will be presented at the Sihh 2013 Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie in its evolved form.

With the help of a scalpel and a microscope, Willard Wigan works using uncommon materials such as spider web, fly legs, gold or Kevlar. His work requires very high concentration and a very strict physical discipline: the artist controls and slows his breathing by entering a trance-like state that allows him to sculpt in the interval of two heartbeats. The beauty and wonder of Willard Wigan's works are such that, in 2007, he was awarded the honour of Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, for his service to art.
