Girard-Perregaux supports the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures

Girard-Perregaux will be the official timepiece and founding sponsor of the new Los Angeles Museum of Motion Pictures, scheduled to open in 2016. The first US non-profit museum entirely dedicated to the history and progress of the film industry, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will be housed in the historic May Company building on Wilshire Boulevard in the heart of Los Angeles. It will be designed by two well-known architects: Renzo Piano and Zoltan Pali. The Museum's galleries, theatres, projection booths, and education centres will display material from the Academy's rich archives and collections, which include more than 140,000 films, 10 million photographs, 42,000 original posters, 10,000 production drawings, costumes and props, film equipment, and behind-the-scenes stories and trivia from artists and pioneers of the film industry. To celebrate and promote this exclusive partnership, Girard-Perregaux will launch a series of special events. "We are proud to work alongside the prestigious Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in this extraordinary adventure," says Michele Sofisti, CEO of Sowind Group (Girard-Perregaux and Jeanrichard). "We realise how important it is to preserve the heritage and history of the art of filmmaking, which like the art of watchmaking requires passion, great commitment and a spirit of sacrifice."
