The watch of Benedict XVI

These days, elections aside, the topic dominating the news is the Pope's controversial resignation. And it is precisely for the resigning pontiff that Margot Koller, owner of an art gallery in Fürstenfeldbruck, a small town on the outskirts of Munich, and with a great passion for mechanical watches, has created the 'Papstuhr Benedikt XVI' watch. On the mechanism, which is visible from the case back, St. Peter's Basilica, the Bible, the crosier and the serial number are engraved. On the dial, which bears the name 'Benedikt', the numerals 10, 5 and 1 are written in Roman numerals X, V and I, referring to His Holiness. The Swiss artist, Kurt Schaffo, made 50 examples of this watch based on drawings by Margot Koller.

Pope Benedict XVI received copy number 1/50 of the watch, which is white in colour. Each watch is accompanied by a booklet with the history of its creation, photographs, a description of the various components and a certificate of authenticity with its serial number.
