Omega and golf star Rory McIlroy

The multi-year partnership signed in 2011 by Swiss watchmaker Omega with the PGA of America, loudly and clearly affirmed the importance of sport in the brand's global marketing strategy. And this week, Omega's link with golf was further strengthened with the agreement signed with Rory McIlroy, one of the world's most talented golfers. As a result of this agreement, the well-known golfer from Northern Ireland joins Omega's roster of endorsers, which includes many golfing stars, including the legendary Greg Norman, as well as Michelle Wie, Sergio Garcia and Stacy Lewis, who was confirmed a few weeks ago, and numerous celebrities from the world of entertainment, including Nicole Kidman, George Clooney and Daniel Craig. Stephen Urquhart, Omega's president, said about it: "Rory is one of those players who lights up every court they play on. Over the last few years he has shown that he is capable of generating great emotion and has already won legions of new fans. He is the kind of player who is good for the sport and its image and we look forward to seeing where his extraordinary talent will take him. We are particularly proud to inform the press and public that as of today Rory is officially part of the Omega family". Commenting on the partnership, Rory McIlroy said: "Omega has an extraordinary heritage in sport, through its role as Official Timekeeper during the Olympic Games and its presence at major golf tournaments. I have always been a fan of the brand and to be chosen as an ambassador is a great honour for me. I am very excited and happy to imagine many years alongside this prestigious watchmaker." In 2012, Rory played an important role in the Ryder Cup in Medinah, where Omega was present as Official Timekeeper.
