El Primero loses its chronograph function

El Primero perde la funzione cronografo

The Academy collection of Zenith comes in a new and exclusive version: a precious Tourbillon in pink gold. Inside, it beats the famous El Primero calibre, but in this case deprived of the chronograph function. The result is a very unusual calibre, striking for its somewhat excessive thickness in relation to its diameter. In the new 4041 version, in fact, the diameter has been reduced, adopting only the hour and minute functions, with the addition of the one-minute tourbillon device. Even the thickness of the movement, in our opinion, could have been retouched, to avoid the 'brick' effect of the case on the wrist (the diameter of the watch is less than 40 millimetres).

On the other hand, the number of vibrations of the El Primero calibre does not diminish, remaining at 36,000 vibrations per hour. The dial is well-structured and original: made of 18-carat gold, with a central grain d'orge decoration, it features three-dimensional asymmetrical diamond and Roman numerals in gold, which increase in size from 1 to 12. The tourbillon stands out at 11, whose corresponding extra-large index towers over the entire cage. Water-resistant to a pressure of 3 atmospheres, the Academy Tourbillon is fitted with an alligator strap with a triple gold folding clasp.
