To mark the release of National Geographic's Deepsea Challenge 3D film - which recounts explorer and filmmaker James Cameron's solo expedition to 10,908 metres below the surface of the Pacific Ocean at the controls of the submarine Deepsea Challenger on 26 March 2012 - Rolex presented a new edition of its Rolex Deepsea diver's model and equipped it with a "D-blue" dial reminiscent of the colours of the great deep sea. In homage to the partnership between Rolex and James Cameron, the green "Deepsea" inscription on the dial of the watch adopts the colour that the submarine took on underwater. The new timepiece was unveiled yesterday in New York, on the occasion of the American premiere of the documentary film, in the Hall of Ocean Life at the American Museum of Natural History, in the presence of Cameron and numerous personalities from the world of underwater exploration and cinema. Deepsea Challenge 3D retraces James Cameron's historic dive in the Mariana Trench, with the support of Rolex and National Geographic.
