Girard-Perregaux - Triaxial Tourbillon in white gold

GP_LD_TriAxial2015_T (1)_blogGirard-Perregaux presents a new version of its Tourbillon Tri-Axial, housed in a 48 mm white gold case. As is well known, the main objective of the tourbillon device is to optimise chronometric precision by eliminating the negative influence of the earth's gravity on the regulating organ of the timepiece. While it is true that the tourbillon was created over two centuries ago, it is also true that watchmakers have never stopped perfecting its effectiveness. Girard-Perregaux, historically a great specialist of this complication, goes even further, accentuating its complexity and thus expanding the frontiers of innovation. Indeed, the Swiss watchmaker has developed a tourbillon whose regulating organ rotates along three axes instead of just one, as is traditionally the case. The lyre-shaped internal cage, in keeping with the Girard-Perregaux tradition, makes one rotation in one minute and is integrated within a structure that makes one complete revolution in thirty seconds on a second axis. Finally, a third structure enables the whole to make one rotation in two minutes on a new axis. The movement, Girard-Perregaux calibre GP09300-0002 (21,600 vibrations per hour, 34 jewels, 60-hour power reserve) consists of 317 components, 140 of which are reserved for the tourbillon cage, which weighs a mere 1.24 grams. A side opening on the side of the case at 9 o'clock offers another view of the fascinating spectacle on offer, which is also visible through the watch back. The novelty of the white gold version is the dial, whose play of transparency allows an even better view of the precision mechanics of the timepiece, while emphasising its modernity. These different views of the movement reveal exceptional finishes. On the caseback, the black plate engraved with the eagle - the symbol of the Manufacture - underlines the modernity of the execution in a play of contrasts with the emblematic Girard-Perregaux bridges in pink gold in the shape of an arrow. The plaque with the watch's serial number (it is produced in a limited edition of only 10 pieces) is also made of rose gold, while the circular satin-brushed bridge supporting the tourbillon system's differential is engraved with the inscription "Tri-Axial". It took the watchmakers almost 160 hours to assemble the 317 components of the movement. The strap is made of hand-sewn black alligator leather and fitted with a white gold folding clasp.
