Piaget Altiplano Chronograph

blog1At the 2015 SIHH, Piaget presented, among other models, this ultra-thin chronograph from the Altiplano collection. With the introduction of the new ultra-thin 883P calibre, the Swiss company also set a new record, as it is the thinnest hand-wound flyback chronograph movement ever made. Specifically, this calibre is only 4.65 mm thick, while the complete watch is 8.24 mm thick. Piaget is no stranger to such exploits in the field of ultra-thin movements, holding no fewer than 14 world records in this particular category. The most recent creation in the range of movements entirely developed by Piaget is therefore called the 883P and is the evolution of the automatic 880P calibre, one of the thinnest on the market. And it is the expertise of the Manufacture de Haute Horlogerie that now enables it to present the world's thinnest hand-wound flyback chronograph, both in terms of calibre and case. It took two years of development at the Manufacture in La Côte-aux-Fées, Piaget's birthplace, to bring this double feat to life. The master watchmakers and developers sought extreme subtlety in all the components, from the pinion (0.12 mm) to the barrel axis (0.115 mm) and the finger of the central chronograph wheel (0.06 mm), as well as the refinement of the dial and hands. The end result is a calibre endowed with a 50-hour power reserve with hour, minute and small seconds functions at 6 o'clock, a 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock and a 24-hour dual time-zone display at 9 o'clock. Piaget's Altiplano Chronograph is available in a pink gold version or in a white gold version set with 56 brilliant-cut diamonds (approximately 1.8 carats).
