The rotating bezel

An indispensable element of any diver's watch, the unidirectional rotating bezel serves to indicate, during a dive, the time spent at depth and the time taken to ascend. To fulfil this function, it is equipped with a sexagesimal scale. If, at the time of diving, you make the zero on the bezel coincide with the minute hand, you can easily check the time sequence of the decompression phases and the remaining time allowed by the air cylinders. The primary characteristics that the bezel must possess are the following: a solid grip, even when wearing neoprene gloves; good legibility in all lighting conditions; unidirectional anti-clockwise rotation, which determines, in the event of an accidental shock or involuntary movement of the bezel, the signalling of a remaining time that is less and never more than the time allowed by the air cylinders (so as not to jeopardise the diver's safety). Finally, the rotating bezel, in almost all cases, moves in steps - each of which generally corresponds to one minute - to facilitate adjustment even in particularly demanding situations.
