Erotic automatons and plastic watches

Automi erotici e orologi in plastica

Personally, there are two types of watches that I abhor: watches made of plastic or polycarbonate as they may be - i.e. the plastic 'copies' of the various Daytona, Royal Oak and the like - and erotic watches. Although I appreciate the history of these timepieces, which were initially created for the amusement of Asians in particular, in the 18th century, but then spread all over the world and are still produced in very small series today (I still remember a scene from a couple of years ago in Basel: the young President of an important maison showing with Swiss composure a solotempo from the House with an erotic scene on the back to our Dody Giussani! Maybe it's the rather inelegant movement of the automatons, maybe it's the repetitiveness of the scenes (the watch mechanism doesn't leave room for many variations on the theme...).

Well, in spite of all this, the proposal of an erotic little watch with a mechanical movement with manual winding, water-resistant to 50 metres and with working automatons on the back, at €380 (far more affordable than the €30,000 estimate of its vintage counterpart, dating from around 1790) amuses me greatly. So here it is. A curiosity and a fun little toy for fans of erotic watchmaking.
