Porsche Design Chronograph 911 GT2 RS

Porsche Design Chronograph 911 GT2 RS_3D SoldatAs a result of the 'Porsche Design for Porsche Projects' collaboration, Porsche Design is offering, for the second time in its history, a bespoke watch matched to a sports car. For this exclusive offer, Porsche Design has developed a chronograph powered by the brand's first in-house developed movement, which matches the uniqueness of the sports car. The Porsche Design Chronograph 911 GT2 RS is available exclusively for owners of the new 911 GT2 RS. The car and the watch can be ordered exclusively at Porsche Centres worldwide, as of 30 June 2017. Each will be produced according to individual customer specifications - linked by the individual VIN number of the sports car - and delivered together with the car. As a result of this project, Porsche Design extends the vehicle's unique identity to the driver's wrist. This flyback chronograph therefore features the new movement made in-house by Porsche Design, calibre Werk 01.200, Cosc chronometer. The flyback function makes it possible to stop the seconds hand, reset it to zero and restart it instantaneously with a single push of the pusher for intermediate and lap time measurement. With this watch, Porsche Design once again applies its great engineering skills to even the smallest mechanical masterpiece, designing an unprecedented synergy between the two worlds. The development of the Werk 01.200 calibre took three years. Like all the lifestyle brand's products, the automatic movement was designed to meet the demands of high performance and ease of use, just as the new 911 GT2 RS, with its efficient design, offers maximum functionality and performance. Thanks to the special heat-treated spiral, the movement offers additional constant force transmission to maximise excess load conditions for longer. This increased load occurs, for example, when time is stopped on the race track. Just as the wheel transfers force from the engine to the road, the movement rotor is crucial for generating and transferring mechanical energy. Accordingly, and with attention to detail, the rotor is designed to resemble the wheels of the 911 GT2 RS. The skeletonised rotor, however, posed a particular engineering challenge due to its small surface area and weight. For this reason, Porsche Design uses tungsten for its production, an innovative yet complex process. Just as in cars, a typical Porsche car central locking system with the RS logo connects the rotor to the watch movement. In addition, Porsche's development centre for motorsport was the catalyst for the design of the barrel bridge. To implement Porsche's lightweight design, the weight/load ratio of the bridges is optimised. With its sporty design, the 42-mm titanium case immediately catches the eye. The dial is a constant reminder of the idea of the perfect sports car. Like the stabilisers, connecting coils, running vanes and steering wheel cover, the dial is made of carbon fibre and is reminiscent of that used in the 911 GT2 RS strips finished in the car's original paint. The dial echoes the dashboard's instrumentation and tachometer. A window at 9 o'clock bears the "911 GT2 RS" logo, replacing the small seconds, and with its own movement indicates the running of the watch. The Porsche Design Chronograph 911 GT2 RS is offered with two leather straps: one in black leather/alcantara, the other in black leather and red alcantara. Thanks to the interchangeable strap system, the two versions can be easily interchanged. Through the use of alcantara, Porsche Design again emphasises the parallel with the sports car. The titanium folding clasp extends the principle of lightness to a fast fastening system. The sports car and the chronograph are inseparably linked by a single VIN, which is laser-engraved on the titanium back of the watch. As of 30 June 2017, the Porsche Design Chronograph 911 GT2 RS will be exclusively available at Porsche Centres worldwide for future owners of the 911 GT2 RS sports car, at an indicative retail price starting at 9,650 including VAT.
