Baselworld 2018 Preview: Longines Conquest V.H.P.

L3.717.4.96.9PRbLongines enriches the Conquest V.H.P. collection with new sporty models. The Conquest V.H.P. represents a new success for the Swiss watchmaker in the field of quartz, combining ultra-precision, high technical content and sporty character, under the hallmark elegance of the winged hourglass brand. In the purest Conquest spirit, the chronographs presented today encapsulate all the qualities of the Conquest V.H.P. movement. Longines and quartz have written a history rich in innovation and technical prowess. In 1954, the brand developed a first quartz watch that set a record for precision at the Neuchâtel Observatory. This watch will be incorporated into the famous Chronocinégines, a pioneering instrument in the history of timekeeping that provides judges with a film to enable them to follow the athletes' movements until they cross the finish line. Technological ambition led Longines to present, in 1969, the Ultra-Quartz, the first quartz movement designed to be incorporated into wristwatches. 1984 is a key year for Longines in the field of technological advances, with the quartz calibre incorporated into the first Conquest V.H.P., which at the time achieves the record for precision. In the wake of these historic successes, the St. Imier-based brand presents the new Conquest V.H.P., which is now also available with a chronograph calibre in various colour variations. The movement developed exclusively for Longines is distinguished by its extreme precision, as it is an analogue watch (± 5 seconds/year), and by its ability to reset the hands after a shock or exposure to a magnetic field, thanks to the DPR system (detection of the position of the gears). Advantages that give it the status of an exceptional movement, to which must be added the extremely long battery life and perpetual calendar. The steel or black PVD models, available in two sizes (cases 42 and 44 mm in diameter), display the hours, minutes and seconds and feature a 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock, a 12-hour counter at 9 o'clock and a 60-second counter in the centre. In each model, actions are simplified by the presence of the smart crown and the two separate indicators that signal the end of battery life in advance. Conquest V.H.P. chronographs feature blue, carbon fibre, silvered or black dials. A steel bracelet or a blue or black rubber strap complete these timepieces.
