Utopic's eco-friendly watches

Part of the Ère Carbone series are the original wall clocks made by Utopic, a brand that belongs to ReUse Composites Innovation, a young French company founded in 2014 and specialised in the production of the highest quality carbon fibre, obtained from aeronautical industry waste. The dials of these timepieces are made of this material, with finishes ranging from the classic motif - i.e. composed of filaments lined up side by side - to a star or chessboard pattern; for all versions, the weave decoration is 'surmounted' only by the hour and minute hands and, in some cases, the presence of minimalist hour markers. Light and resistant at the same time, the watches in this series rely on quartz movements for the internal mechanism and are available in different case sizes. Bringing the Utopic creations to life are Christophe Guerin, a designer specialising in research, experimentation and product design development, and Gaspard Mallet, an aeronautical engineer. The designer's signature is on the back of the timepiece, made of recycled polyethylene sponges. Recall that ReUse owns the patent on U-Carbon, composed entirely of recovered carbon fibre and resin and derived from pre-pregnated aeronautical fabrics, i.e., not yet polymerised, and processed in such a way as to create a series of textures that find application in many structural and non-structural parts of modern and designer furniture and furnishings. This material offers up to 15% more mechanical strength than similar commercially available products, without generating any waste during set-up and implementation.
