Seiko - Astron GPS Solar

Seiko presents a new chapter in the history of Astron GPS Solar technology with the launch of the new 5X calibre, offering the most advanced functionality ever. The new Astron 5X series offers the world's smallest and thinnest GPS Solar watch, with a diameter of 42.9 mm and a thickness of 12.2 mm. Since its first appearance in 2012, the Astron collection has been an extraordinary success worldwide. In recent years, hundreds of thousands of watch enthusiasts and global travellers have witnessed the irresistible combination of Seiko's GPS Solar technology and Astron's unique design. Over the same period, Seiko's range of GPS Solar calibres has evolved and developed to include Chronograph, Dual Time, World Time and Big Date versions. To improve the speed and quality of the GPS connection, every component of the GPS module was redesigned. Operation of the 5X calibre is also faster and more intuitive than ever: it takes only three seconds, for example, to advance 14 hours from Tokyo to New York, thanks to the system that moves the hour, minute and seconds hands independently. The new functions also enable automatic daylight saving time adjustment and allow the wearer to immediately change the time shown on the dial from local to daylight saving time and vice versa. Comfort on the wrist is further improved thanks to a new buckle adjustment system that allows an ideal fit to the wrist. As with its predecessors, the new Astron 5X series adjusts to the time zone at the touch of a button (if the local time changes, manual time zone selection may be required) by connecting to the GPS satellite network and, since it uses its own solar power to do this, it will never need to change the battery. Astron 5X offers the astonishing precision of an atomic clock, with the deviation of one second every 100,000 years. The timepiece makes a connection to the satellite network twice a day; the first connection is made after the dial sensor detects sunlight and the second is made at a predetermined time set by the owner. It is the perfect watch for those who travel the world. The new Calibre 5X will be available in three design variants, including a limited edition of 2,000 pieces (SSH007J1), inspired by the extraordinary astronomical phenomenon of the supernova, a star that explodes at the end of its life and releases large amounts of energy. In six years, Astron has changed the way many people perceive, measure and relate to time. Today, Seiko writes a new page in the important history of GPS Solar technology and, as happened in 1969 and 2012, an Astron watch once again breaks through the performance frontier of high-precision watches.
