Autobahn, unveiled in 2018 and currently the most dynamic model from Nomos Glashütte, officially reaches the pinnacle of international design. The German Design Council, founded on the initiative of the German Federal Parliament in 1953 and since then one of the most authoritative bodies in the field of design in Germany, has awarded this watch its highest accolade: Autobahn has won Gold at the German Design Awards 2019. The elegant watch is the result of a collaboration with the renowned product and interior designer Werner Aisslinger (Vitra, Loftcube, Juli Chair). With Autobahn, Aisslinger's aim was to attract new customers to NOMOS Glashütte with a masculine yet playful design. The name, which was the original working name, and the distinctive dial communicate the basic concept: a watch with personality, characterised by the full curves of the analogue speedometers of vintage cars. Inspired by mid-twentieth-century design and at the same time firmly rooted in the 'here and now', Autobahn creates a bridge between past and present, attracting design enthusiasts far beyond the world of automobiles. Autobahn is available with a dial in three colours: silver-plated white, sporty grey and midnight blue. All three watches feature a large superluminova arc on a deeply curved dial. Inside them ticks the neo-matik calibre with date display DUW 6101, the latest movement from Nomos Glashütte, a true horological masterpiece. The date ring is masterfully placed on the outer rim to create the trio of dates that is Autobahn's hallmark: yesterday, today and tomorrow. Another practical and innovative feature is the date ring, which is easy to adjust in either direction by means of the crown. Completing the design is an elegant and very durable textile strap. Werner Aisslinger and Judith Borowski, CBO of Nomos, agree that the Autobahn is 'a watch with all the makings of a classic'. Although still young, for Autobahn the GDA is already the second award, after the Red Dot in April. For Nomos Glashütte, the list of awards for excellence in design, value for money and product quality is extended to 150.
