Zodiac in support of spinal cord injury research

Zodiac a favore della ricerca sulle lesioni al midollo spinale

The brand Zodiac next 30 August will support the 'Io nuoto per Gianca' (I swim for Gianca) project, in favour of scientific research into spinal cord injuries. This is a challenge, held for the first time in 2006, which consists of a swimming crossing of about 10 km from the inlet of Massalubrense to Capri, in which great athletes from different sports disciplines have also participated. This year, sports personalities such as John Kirwan (former All Blacks and now coach of the Japanese national rugby team) and numerous sports enthusiasts from all over Italy will participate. The idea came from Giancarlo Volpato, a young rugby player who was the victim of an accident that immobilised him, who put his experience at the service of the La Colonna Association, founded in 2001 with the aim of helping people who have been victims of accidents with spinal injuries. The funds raised are donated to the Montecatone Foundationwhich has already benefited from the collection of over 100,000 euro in past editions, some of which was also donated to the Mirano hospital urology division. Specifically, EUR 30,000 was earmarked for the purchase of state-of-the-art machinery, which will speed up the identification of elements that can lead to the discovery of stem cells suitable for restoring nerve connections damaged in the accident.

The aim of the initiative is to make the project better known and more widespread, and to raise institutional and public awareness of scientific research for spinal cord injuries.

For the occasion, two Zodiac watches will be dedicated to the event, with the customisation of the 'I swim for Gianca' logo on the dial.
