The green Saxem debuts with Hublot

Hublot revisits the ultra-technical and contemporary design of the Big Bang MP-11 by working the case with an innovative material never before seen in watchmaking, Saxem (an acronym for Sapphire Aluminium oXyde and rare Earth Mineral), with emerald green reflections and a brilliance approaching that of diamond. It is obtained by mixing aluminium oxide, the basic component of sapphire, with rare elements such as thulium and holmium, as well as with chromium. The result: a material that is both harder than emerald (too flexible to be worked) and brighter than sapphire. Other distinguishing features are the absence of tension within the material, a property that ensures greater stability during finishing, and the cubic-type crystal structure that always guarantees the same shade and intensity of colour regardless of the angle from which the case is viewed. The green Saxem, completely polished, creates a contrast with both the six H-shaped screws of the bezel, made of micro-bead-blasted black titanium, and the black crown that combines titanium with rubber inserts. Enclosed in this absolutely transparent case, beats an in-house hand-wound movement, the Hublot HUB9011 calibre, comprising 270 parts and with a 14-day power reserve guaranteed by 7 barrels visible on the side of the dial. The latter is displayed directly on a cylinder positioned to the left of the seven barrels, so as not to hide the Day Power Reserve inscription engraved on the sapphire crystal. The new watch is in a limited series of 20.
