Omega presents the Speedmaster Moonwatch 321
in steel

At the beginning of last year, Omega announced the long-awaited return of the iconic calibre 321. A few months later, in July of the same year, the Swiss watch brand unveiled its first new-generation watch powered by this movement, namely a Speedmaster Moonwatch with a platinum case. The second timepiece on the launch pad was the steel Speedmaster powered by Omega's calibre 321. In 1965, when astronaut Edward White became the first American to walk in space, the Speedmaster with Ref. ST 105.003 was strapped to his wrist. This new Speedmaster draws inspiration from that famous model. The 39.70 mm steel case, which echoes the style of the third-generation model worn by Ed White, has a bezel ring made of polished black ceramic [ZrO2] with a white enamel tachymeter scale. The black 'step' dial features the classic Moonwatch hands, a small seconds sub-dial, 30-minute and 12-hour counters, and a central chronograph hand. Collectors will be thrilled by the iconic Dot Over Ninety ("dot above ninety") and other references to the past, including the vintage Omega logos found throughout the design. The famous calibre 321 is also visible through the sapphire crystal caseback. The original calibre 321, known for its admirably complex design, was the first movement used in the Omega Speedmaster in 1957. In addition to powering the Speedmaster of Ed White's space walk, this famous movement also equipped the Speedmaster ST 105.012, better known as the first watch worn on the Moon. After extensive research and reconstruction work in a dedicated laboratory, the calibre 321 was recreated to its original specifications and presented in 2019 to mark the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing. Now this legendary calibre is the driving force behind not one, but two Moonwatch models, including this spectacular new Omega Speedmaster in steel. Retail price: 13,400 euros.
