Baselworld's answer to Rolex, Patek, Chanel and Chopard

Baselworld's reaction to the cancellation of participation in the 2021 edition by Rolex, Patek Philippe, Chanel, Chopard and Tudor was not long in coming.
In a note, the MCH Group expresses its surprise and regret at the decision of the Houses and points out that the new dates in January had been defined jointly with the major exhibitors. The aim was to find the best and most convenient time to organise the fair, in compliance with the measures resulting from the health emergency. The exhibitors' committee reportedly gave a positive response to the proposal of January 2021. While Rolex, Patek Philippe, Chanel, Chopard and Tudor have now decided to migrate to a trade fair platform to be held later in the year (at the beginning of April). According to the Baselworld organisers, the intention to move to Geneva was never mentioned.
It is true, however, that an exit by the exhibitors had been communicated in recent days, in the context of the discussion with the MCH Group's top management on the return of investments for the 2020 edition, which was then postponed. Baselworld's communiqué makes no reference to this. But it is clear that a meeting point has not been reached.
In the coming weeks, the MCH Group will make a decision on the future of Baselworld, and will consider whether or not to invest in its development.
