Parmigiani Fleurier: refined complication

At the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève, to be held on 12 November, Parmigiani Fleurier is a finalist in the Calendar and Astronomical category with its Hijri Perpetual Calendar model. The first Islamic perpetual calendar to be incorporated into a wristwatch, the new model features a 44.5 mm platinum case and a slate-coloured brass dial with the hours, minutes and date in Arabic numerals, the name and length of the months in Arabic script and, finally, the "abundant" and common years. Recognisable at 6 o'clock, on an aventurine sky, are the phases of the moon which, in the Muslim world, mark the time in the Islamic lunar calendar (Hijri) divided into twelve months of 29 or 30 days and adopted to define the feast days of the Islamic year. Unlike the solar calendar in use in the Western world, the months of the lunar calendar change from year to year with a difference of ten to twelve days. Consequently, each month falls in a different season, contrary to the Gregorian calendar. At the heart of the watch is an in-house self-winding mechanical movement, calibre PF009, with a 48-hour power reserve: it is finished in anglage and côtes de Genève and has an oscillating weight in platinum with a "Grain d'Orge" guilloché decoration. It is completed by a black Hermès alligator strap with a pin buckle. The Hijri Perpetual Calendar is also among the nominees for our Watch of the Year 2020 award in the Calendar category.
