Louis Moinet: visible chronograph mechanism

A limited edition of just 28 pieces, the Louis Moinet Memoris Superlight is a chronograph in which the entire chronograph mechanism has been extrapolated from the automatic movement and placed in full view on the dial, so that its operation can be observed when it is activated. The column wheel, which transfers the start, stop and reset functions to the movement, is thus placed in full view at 12 o'clock, instead of being hidden on the back side of the movement. Arranged radially around it are the return bascule, the brake lever and the reset hammer. At 9 o'clock on the transparent dial, the small seconds dial can be observed and the gear wheel integral with the hand can be seen, which makes one revolution in one minute with it. The small seconds wheel engages the gear wheel pivoting on the bascule of the same name. When the pusher at 2 o'clock, which in this Memoris controls all three chronograph functions, is pressed, the bascule moves until it brings the return wheel into contact with the large central chronograph wheel, which begins to move in solidarity with the chronograph seconds hand. All this can be admired simultaneously with the movement of the chronograph hands, as if you were watching a video illustrating its operation.
A second press of the pusher at 2 will then see the rocker return and the brake lever go to rest on the central chronograph seconds wheel, to hold its hand on the measured datum. Finally, a third press of the push-button will cause the hammer to drop on the chrono seconds and chrono minutes heart cams (in the totaliser at 3 on the dial) and you will watch the two hands return very quickly to zero, following the shortest path, whether clockwise or anti-clockwise.
Bold in design, the watch features a grade 5 titanium case, 46 millimetres in diameter, matching the colours chosen for the dial: orange, used for the back, and blue, in two tones, used for the flange and the off-centre hours and minutes disc at 6 o'clock; the chronograph minute counter at 3 o'clock and the continuous seconds counter at 9 o'clock are on display, while the chrono seconds hand is in the centre. The blue also continues on the leather strap, fastened by a folding clasp. The watch is among the nominees for the GPHG 2020 in the chronograph category.
