Editorial - Clock of the Year 2020

It was an intense day on Thursday, preceded by 48 hours of anxiety that I shared with the entire nation.

An anxiety that in many cases (e.g. mine) turned into indignation. Because even in an emergency you need respect for people and their work.

But everything is overcome. So it was then with enthusiasm that just the evening before we confirmed (or rather, had to cancel) the award ceremony for the Watch of the Year. Which took place on 5 November, with the valuable collaboration of Vicenzaoro, at the Antonini Milano showroom.

I was very happy to have the opportunity to meet so many protagonists of the watch industry in Italy, to present them with the prize awarded by our readers. Not being able to do so would have been a great disappointment, because the Watch of the Year is an award that has more than twenty years of history and has become a very important appointment for the Italian watchmaking community. Unfortunately, 2020 did not allow us, as it always has, to get together in person, to toast, converse and share an evening with many friends of L'Orologio. But the formula we found (after frantic changes, due each time to the changes introduced by the Dpcm issued in succession) was nevertheless a winner. Individual meetings with representatives of the winning houses, which we recorded in a video soon to be available online. To share the moment of the award ceremony with all the enthusiasts, who are the driving force behind watchmaking in Italy.

And Milano d'Oro? The event is currently suspended following the classification of Lombardy as a 'red region', i.e. at high risk of contagion, with all the closures and restrictions on the movement of people that one can read about in the newspapers.

But it is not cancelled. The appointment with the first edition will be renewed as soon as health conditions permit. What is certain is that the Associazione Orafa Lombarda is already working on the project scheduled for November 2021. We look forward to it.
