Each year, one colour

Last year I noted a certain coincidence: the overabundance of blue dials coincided with the colour of the year chosen by the American Pantone. This January, thanks to the realisation that there is indeed an official colour of the year, I inevitably noticed the resonance given (even by Tg1) to the announcement of the colour 2021 by Pantone LLC. Actually, there are two colours: Ultimate Grey and Illuminating. Apparently, the dualism of grey and yellow would best represent Covid's time: a grey present, illuminated by hope in a future as yellow as the sun.

Intrigued, I went to see what, unknown to me, were the colours of the past years. And I noticed that the blue-yellow succession had already been seen in 2008-2009 (two years marked by the world economic crisis: is this a coincidence?). Perhaps in that case, with a certain optimism, Pantone wanted to represent 2009 with a colour (yellow) that would mark the exit from the 2008 crisis (blue, which in the Anglo-Saxon world marks sadness). This makes me think that, given the addition of grey, the company's creatives are not so confident about 2021...

An important question remains: should we prepare ourselves for a series of watches with yellow/grey details? The combination does not displease and is not new in watchmaking. The answer to this question may already come in the next few days, with the unveiling of new products from Bulgari, Hublot and Zenith at LVMH Watch Week.

Which will only take place online. And this is nothing new now.
