Rolex presents the new Explorers

Oyster Perpetual Explorer

As all Rolex enthusiasts expected, 2021 is the year of the Explorer.
The house revisits its collection linked to exploration, in trend with the search for a new and more sustainable relationship with nature. Two models have been introduced: the Explorer in yellow Rolesor (a combination of Oystersteel and 18-carat yellow gold) and the Explorer II in Oystersteel with a redesigned case, 42 mm in diameter like its predecessor.
The new generation Oyster Perpetual Explorer returns to 36 mm in diameter, borrowing the dimensions of the original model presented in 1953 following the first ascent to the summit of Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay on 29 May of that year. The black dial is lacquered and features geometric hour markers and the characteristic Arabic numerals at 3, 6 and 9 o'clock.
The new calibre is the 3230, the same one introduced last year on the Oyster Perpetual and the Submariner without date and equipped with all the Rolex innovations of recent years. Also renewed is the Explorer II, with a redesigned case and bracelet, a white lacquered dial with black PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) coated indices and black lacquered hour, minute and seconds hands with a matt finish. The 24-hour hand retains its emblematic orange colour which, since 2011, is also the colour of the 'Explorer II' inscription. The new generation Explorer II benefits from the optimised Chromalight display. In the dark, the blue glow emitted by the indices and hands retains its intensity for longer thanks to the luminescent substance exclusive to Rolex. In daylight, the white colour of these display elements is more vivid. Calibre 3186 is now replaced by the 3285, which already equips the GMT-Master II.
