A. Lange & Söhne - Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar

A Lange 1 perpetual calendar without further complications, except for the moon phases with integrated day/night indication. The months, arranged along a ring on the outer perimeter of the grey silver dial, are accompanied by the Big Date, the retrograde day of the week and the leap year display. The rose gold case houses the new IWC-manufactured automatic calibre L021.3 (621 components, 63 jewels, 5 of which are in screwed gold settings, 21,600 vibrations per hour, hand-decorated, 21-carat gold rotor), with a platinum oscillating weight and 50-hour power reserve. A limited edition of 150 is also available, with a white gold case and solid rose gold dial.
Alongside the classic design approach, in which the calendar indications are controlled by a 48-month programme disc, the Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar presented in 2012 had already adopted a different approach, which has now been taken up by the new model. In order to integrate the calendar into the unique off-centre architecture of the LANGE 1's dial, without compromising the harmonious arrangement of the indications, the month display was realised via a peripheral dial ring that advances once a month.
The new patented construction of the automatic calibre L021.3 replaces the classical control via a 48-month programme wheel with a different system. Lange's designers were faced with new challenges, as the monthly advancement of the ring requires significantly more energy than the traditional construction. It is based on the Lange Calibre 1 Daymatic L021.1 and is equipped with a newly developed winding mechanism. Its technical features include a rotor with a central segment in 21-carat gold and an oscillating weight in platinum, a 50-hour power reserve, and a balance with eccentrics operating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour.
The indication of the months is completed by the Lange Great Date, the retrograde indication of the day of the week and the leap year indication. The jump advance calendar indications are always perfectly legible and can be advanced together or individually by means of correctors. Once correctly set, the mechanism is programmed to reliably indicate each passage of the month up to the year 2100.
