NOMOS Glashütte wins Green Good Design Award 2021

Scoring top marks in two areas, design and sustainability, the Tangente Update by NOMOS Glashütte won the Green Good Design Award 2021. The Chicago Athenaeum's Good Design Award is considered one of the most prestigious awards in the world, honouring excellence in design for over 70 years. NOMOS Glashütte has already won this award six times. The Green Good Design Award, on the other hand, is new: in addition to beauty, it rewards sustainability. For NOMOS Glashütte, this is the seventh award from Chicago and the fourth major award for the Tangente Update, following the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève, the iF Design Award and the European Product Design Award. Under the motto 'Build A Better World Now', this award honours not only products, but also building and urban planning projects that integrate state-of-the-art methods and technologies to reduce environmental impact and promote sustainability. The city of Hamburg, for example, was named Green City of the Year 2021.
The Tangente, an icon within NOMOS production, has been a design classic since its launch in 1992. The new version, named Tangente neomatik 41 Update, features an exclusive date ring along the edge of the dial, with two red bars "framing" the current date. The new date display was developed by the NOMOS research and development departments and product design team, and handcrafted by expert watchmakers in Glashütte - a tangible testimony to the brand's in-house production. NOMOS Glashütte has been granted two patents for this watch, and the production process meets all sustainability standards: the cooling oil, as well as swarf and metal scraps that accumulate during manufacture, are returned to the raw material suppliers to be cleaned and recycled. The water used for rinsing the newly manufactured parts is treated thoroughly, and in the logistics department special attention is paid to CO2 neutrality. Almost all watch parts, down to the smallest pinion, are produced in-house by NOMOS. In fact, 95% of the calibre's value is made in-house, which is quite remarkable in the world of mechanical wristwatches. The Tangente Update and the other award winners will be exhibited at the Green Good Design Show 2021 at The European Centre in Athens from 14 May to 15 June.
Price: 3,200 euro.
