Jaquet Droz on show in Milan

Maison Jaquet Droz has been invited to exhibit its creations at an exceptional exhibition to be held in Milan from 1 May next and entitled "Robot. The Human Project". This is one of the first exhibitions in the world to document the passion for creating androids. From the automata of past centuries to the most modern robots, the aim is to create a mechanical alternative to man and, as far as possible, endow it with human traits, from expressions through gestures to artificial intelligence. This was also the goal of Pierre Jaquet Droz, who created his first automatons 250 years ago. The Writer, The Draughtsman and The Musician, presented in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1774, marked a historic turning point in the transition from automata to full-fledged androids, giving rise to the Jaquet Droz myth in European courts. These creations continue to be a source of inspiration for the Maison's timepieces to this day. The request from the MUDEC (Museum of Cultures) demonstrates the importance of the Manufacture's contribution to this long journey. Jaquet Droz has therefore agreed to participate in the exhibition by presenting some of its most prestigious automata: a songbird (1790), an animated bird cage (1780), a songbird pocket watch (1785) and The Poet (2018). The exhibition "Robot - The Human Project" will be held in Milan until 1 August and combines fascination and inspiration, imagination and creativity, in an interactive scenario that is sure to satisfy the curiosity of those who appreciate "the Art of Wonder", so dear to Jaquet Droz.
