Hublot - Big Bang Unico SORAI

Kevin Petersen, fondatore di SORAI.
Kevin Pietersen, founder of SORAI.

Thanks to the persistence and commitment of initiatives to preserve rhinos, poaching, the main threat to their survival in Africa, has been slowly but steadily decreasing since 2020. In the last 10 years, two-thirds of the rhinos in South Africa's Kruger Park have been killed by poachers, so that today there are estimated to be fewer than 500 left. In late March 2020, the South African border was closed to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Previously, the daily influx of foreign visitors had kept the poachers at bay and now, due to a severe shortage of rangers, they are free to move around this vast area undetected. The loss of this source of income for the country highlights the extent to which wildlife protection organisations depend on private donation funds, as well as on collaboration and coordination between local, international, public and private actors involved. Hublot is playing an important role in this situation, reaffirming its support for Kevin Pietersen and SORAI (Save Our Rhino Africa India) and presenting a new edition of the SORAI Unique Big Bang that will incite its 100 future owners to embrace this cause for the planet. In fact, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the watches will be donated exclusively to 'Care for Wild', the world's largest rhino sanctuary, supported by SORAI, which will be able to use these funds in any way it sees fit. While the previous version of the SORAI Big Bang Unico, with its beige ceramic case, evoked the winter colours of the South African bush, the new variant (equipped with the UNICO manufacture movement) is inspired by the natural colours of the bush in summer: a harmonious combination of two shades of green, from the green ceramic case to the camouflage rubber or Velcro strap (the straps are interchangeable thanks to the quick-change system). The aforementioned case has a diameter of 45 mm and is fitted with an anti-reflective sapphire crystal to protect the dial and the case back, on which the SORAI logo is placed. The skeleton dial features a stylised rhinoceros in the small seconds dial at 9 o'clock. The manufactory-made MHUB1242 UNICO calibre (330 components, 38 jewels, 28,800 vibrations per hour, 72-hour power reserve), is mechanical with automatic winding. This special edition, with sapphire engraving on the back, will be available in a limited edition of only 100 pieces.

Price: 23,800 euro.
