He who has time waits for no time

It had to happen sooner or later, and it is happening very soon.
The first Patek Philippe Ref. 5711/1A, otherwise known as the Nautilus in steel with an olive green sunburst dial or, more simply, '5711 green', will go on auction in about ten days' time: on 21 July in Monaco at Antiquorum.
Barely three months have passed since its launch and against a list price of 30,860 euros, the auction house is offering it for sale with an estimate of 50,000 to 150,000 euros. The watch is naturally wrapped in Laura Palmer-style plastic - marked Patek Philippe - having never been worn on the wrist. If the purpose of discontinuing the 5711 in steel was to stop speculation and get an "unwieldy figure" out of the way, the operation does not seem to be a success.

More than anything else, Patek Philippe managed to replace an unobtainable watch with an even more unaffordable one, with the result that speculation grew further. "The Patek Philippe Nautilus continues to be one of watchmaking's greatest best-sellers. An incredibly coveted and sought-after model, we are honoured and proud to offer for the first time at auction a Ref. 5711/1A in fantastic condition, which has already sold out everywhere since its introduction in 2021 by the brand," said Romain Réa, CEO of Antiquorum, adding: "We also have fantastic pieces by F.P. Journe, Audemars Piguet, Rolex and many others to complete our 433 total lots for an auction that is sure to break records.

Indeed, the catalogue of the Monaco auction is very rich and varied, also offering numerous collectibles, including a Swiss Postbus steering wheel with a Zenith 8-day clock for EFAP in the centre, instead of the horn. There are also plenty of very affordable offerings, including original design pieces by Gérald Genta. Not to mention Patek and Rolex highlights and an interesting Royal Oak 'triptych'.

It is a pity that from 21 July only the awarding of the Green Nautilus will be discussed.
