Porsche Design World Time gets a makeover

Launched two years ago, Porsche Design's 1919 Globetimer UTC now wears its new All-Black guise thanks to a black titanium carbide coating on the case and a strap, also black, made from the leather of the brand's car interiors. Derived from the simple and precise handling of Porsche's double-clutch gearbox, the dial of the 24 time zones around the world can be adjusted in one-hour increments - without losing the current time, but simply by pressing the shaped push-button that is incorporated into the case. With each click, this button advances the short local time hand one position clockwise. When flying eastwards, pressing the '+' button will bring you into the second time zone with the one-hour interval, while going westwards and pressing the '- ' button will move the UTC hands in the opposite direction, moving automatically but always remaining synchronised. In order to ensure that the operation takes place at midnight and not at noon, it is necessary to set the time correctly only once, with the help of a circular window on the left-hand side of the dial that turns white or black depending on whether it is day or night, thus facilitating this task. Porsche Design also took into account the time indicated by a second, clearly visible hour hand with a distinct luminous tip, which turns once every twenty-four hours, indicating home time. The latest version of the 1919 Globetimer UTC All Black is powered by the Cosc-certified Porsche Design Werk calibre 04.110 with bidirectional winding rotor and time-zone mechanism specially developed by Porsche Design and manufactured by Dubois-Dépraz. The 1919 Globetimer UTC All Black will be available from August 2021 at a price of €6,250 at Porsche Design shops, selected retailers and online at www.porsche-design.com.
