In Geneva, as part of the Rare Watches Autumn Auction to be held on 8 November, Christie's will be auctioning off the very first version of Patek Philippe's Ref. 2523 in an 18-carat yellow gold case. The watch, characterised by the presence of the double crown and the world time display combined with a 24-hour disc, features a special guilloché pattern with a wave motif in the central area of the dial, made of gold. Never seen at auction before, this rare Ref. 2523 dates back to the 1950s and only 26 pieces were made in yellow or pink gold and only one in white gold. Prior to the discovery of this rare watch that will be auctioned, the known case with the lowest reference number was No. 306.193, while the watch being auctioned has a case numbered 305.699. The value of the watch is estimated at between CHF 1,000,000 and CHF 3,000,000.
