Breguet's Marines get a new look

Breguet is enriching its Marine collection with new combinations of materials and colours. Beginning with the titanium versions of the three-hand date watch, the Marine 5517, and the Marine Chronograph 5527, hitherto available only with a slate-coloured dial and sunburst decoration for an almost monochrome style, now also offered in combination with a blue dial. While the new pink gold version, which until now was only available with a silver-coloured dial with a guilloché wave pattern, is now offered in a new slate-coloured option that increases the contrast with the warm colour of the metal for an even more elegant effect.
As for the case, water-resistant to 100 metres, the choice of a more contemporary design is underlined by the adoption of square satin-brushed horns. The fluted motif of the caseband, a distinctive feature of all Breguet models, has been reworked, and the crown protection system is reminiscent of the waves of the sea, the leitmotif of the Marine collection. On a technical level, while the solotempo 5517 is equipped with the automatic calibre 777A with silicon balance spring and escapement, the chronograph motor is the automatic 582QA with a 48-hour power reserve and silicon components.
Both the chronograph and the three-hander can be fitted with metal bracelets or straps in rubber or leather: the rubber asserts itself as the perfect companion in the titanium version, a consistent material for a watch akin to the world of the sea, because it is resistant to salinity and corrosion; but even in the gold variant, the combination proves successful for a modern luxury sports watch with a strong identity.
In conclusion, the Marines - the expression of a more versatile and sporty watchmaking - do not betray Breguet's identity. The brand's most classic elements are interpreted according to a more dynamic and contemporary vision. An objective that could have proved risky for a brand that has made tradition its strong point, but one that fully convinces, especially in the titanium versions.
Prices: €17,200 to €28,300 (solotempo titanium or gold); €21,300 to €33,400 (chronograph titanium or gold).
