Back on the road with Roger Dubuis

On 26 and 27 September, after a break of almost two years due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic situation, nine members of L'Orologio Club had the opportunity to cross the threshold of the Roger Dubuis manufacture in Meyrin, near Geneva. It was at this site, where the brand transferred its production in 2001, just six years after its foundation, that they deepened their knowledge of the Maison by visiting its workshops and relying on the explanations given by technicians, which are always the best way to get to know a brand. Indeed, going 'behind the scenes' allows one to make a quantum leap in understanding watchmaking. "The real experience further highlighted the characterisation of this young brand, focused on stylistic audacity and overcoming technical limits, while respecting the Geneva manufacturing tradition," was the comment of one of the guests. Very high craftsmanship and state-of-the-art machinery are certainly essential, but according to Gregory Bruttin, Product Strategy Director and responsible for all the stylistic and technical choices of the House, it is the mentality that makes the difference: "We like to play with rules and materials, the challenge is to make a surprising product with real watchmaking content and to meet the needs of customers. As with the Excalibur Cobalt Blue, which embodies this mentality and marks the return to the Roger Dubuis catalogue of cobalt chrome, an ideal material for watchmaking, resistant to stress and insensitive to magnetic fields, the true enemies of precision. Its use also in the movement opens the way for infinite applications, and makes this piece of haute horlogerie the forerunner of a small technical revolution. Club members were able to discuss this and much more, for whom the visit proved to be an exciting experience thanks to the meeting with the people and the valuable exchange of views between creators and collectors.
