Editorial - Why you should not miss VO Vintage

VO Vintage, an event dedicated to vintage watchmaking and open to the public, is back. From 20 to 23 January at Vicenzaoro.

For those who are wondering what VO Vintage is, I will give a brief summary of previous episodes. Since January 2020, Vicenzaoro - the leading jewellery fair held twice a year in Vicenza - has reopened its spaces to watchmaking, with an appointment dedicated to the collectors' watch market. But it did not do so with a simple market exhibition. From the outset, VO Vintage was enriched with cultural content, exciting and of interest to all enthusiasts, not just those inclined to buy second-hand and collectors' watches.

This second soul of VO Vintage is why you should not miss the Vicenza event. In addition to the watches on display for sale, which are of considerable interest, the exhibition includes a display of collectible Omega Speedmasters, curated by Andrea Foffi, dealer and editor of the book Magister, which includes photos of his considerable Speed collection.

In terms of training, the contribution of Ugo Pancani, a watchmaking professor, scholar and historian in the sector, as well as a trainer at the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie, is fundamental. Prof. Pancani will hold the course 'The world of auctions and watch collecting. Opportunities and risks', scheduled for Sunday 22 January, from 2.30 to 4 p.m., and intended for enthusiasts.

Of course, L'Orologio will also make its contribution, with two talks in which I myself will act as moderator and which will take place on Saturday 21 January. At 12.00 noon we are ready to engage you in a conversation entitled "Identikit of the collector", in which we will discover what kind of buyer we are, even unconsciously. Following this, at around 12.45pm, we will refresh ourselves with an aperitif organised by us at L'Orologio. At 3.00 p.m. it will be the turn of the second of the talks that will see me among the protagonists: 'The trend of the second wrist market', in which we will compare the effectiveness of two completely different methods of analysing a market, comparing the automatism of an algorithm with the experience of 'old hands'.

The programme is even richer thanks to the contribution of various bloggers, from Edoardo Armentano of Italian Watch Spotter to Andrea Casalegno of IamCasa and Jacopo Giudici of Watch Insanity, who will involve enthusiasts in talks on other and different aspects of collecting. Lastly, for professionals in the sector, I would like to point out that from 20 to 24 January the new "TIME" exhibition will also be coming to Vicenza for the first time. As part of Vicenzaoro's B2B format, it is aimed at operators in the sector and aims to represent the entire contemporary watch supply chain, with around fifty Italian and international brands and micro-brands, start-ups and established manufacturers of components, accessories, instruments and after-sales equipment.

If these arguments were not enough to convince you to plan a weekend in Vicenza, I am curious to know why.
If, on the other hand, you think it is worth the trip, I am waiting for you!
