In the Rolex Oyster family, the Day-Date is the only model to be made exclusively in precious metals (white gold, Everose or platinum). After the introduction of the date window in 1945 with the Datejust, to which the Cyclope magnifying glass was added in 1953 to make it easier to read, the Day-Date in 1956 introduced the full day information at 12 o'clock.
Already at the time of its introduction, day and date indications were instantly triggered at midnight to indicate the new date and day, so much so that in those days it was referred to as the 'midnight miracle'.
Since 2015, a 40 mm case has been introduced (instead of the 36 mm of the previous version and the 41 mm of the Day-Date II, presented in 2008). In 2022, for the first time Rolex offered a platinum version with a knurled bezel (previously in this case size the bezel was exclusively smooth), typical of the gold versions. In order to make the bezel, the knurling guillochage process, initially designed for gold, had to be adapted.
It comes with an ice blue dial and Roman numerals and a President bracelet (originally created exclusively for this model) with an invisible Crownclasp clasp. The movement is the automatic calibre 3255 with a blue Parachrom balance spring and Chronergy escapement. The day display is available in no fewer than 26 languages.
