Omega Speedmaster Chime:
the sound of the chrono

The first 5 Hz Co-Axial movement, equipped with a chronograph minute repeater, is at the heart of the most complicated Speedmaster ever made by Omega.

A split-seconds chronograph with a minute repeater is the combination that represents an absolute first in watchmaking and which, at Omega, goes by the name of the 1932 calibre: a split-seconds chronograph with an entirely new chime device for chronograph indications (in a traditional minute repeater, the sound translates the current time instead), in which the two complications are fully integrated. The calibre 1932 is the first Co-Axial movement to reach a frequency of 5 Hz to show a 1/10th of a second reading, which entailed a reworking of the escapement made by George Daniels, designed for standard frequencies between 3 and 4 Hz. Omega also developed a new chime system for the Chrono Chime function, achieved by adding 3 cams on the chronograph central wheel shaft: a low note for minutes, a double note for tenths of a second, a high note for seconds. The power reserve is 60 hours.

The calibre 1932 is at the heart of the most complicated Speedmaster ever made by Omega, inspired by the lines of the second-generation Speed, with its straight lugs and alpha hands. These shapes are re-adapted in a large 45 mm Sedna gold case, mainly due to the complexity of the movement (so much so that it is up to 17.3 mm thick).

Of course, the unusual arrangement of the pushpieces immediately distinguishes it from the classic Speedmaster design: the crown features a coaxial pusher for activating the chronograph; at 2 is the split-seconds pusher with a red ceramic ring; at 8 is the alarm pusher.

The dial of the Speedmaster Chrono Chime in grand feu enamel, mixed with powdered blue aventurine, according to a patented process, features a layout with two Sedna gold counters, embellished with a guilloché finish with a motif that the company defines as "acoustic waves", which is also echoed on the flange. At 9 o'clock, next to the small seconds counter, are visible the gold gongs for the striking function, attached directly to the case body.

A niche Speedmaster that significantly raises the bar for Omega's mechanical savoir-faire. A real treat for collectors and lovers of this chronograph in a unique version that does not betray the Speed DNA.
