Swatch: Journey through art

From now until May, Swatch presents five capsule collections dedicated to the world of art: the new Art Journey.

Between now and mid-May, the Swiss watch manufacturer has announced the launch of five new capsule collections that are a veritable tribute to the world of art, with which Swatch has always had a privileged relationship. In particular, Swatch recreates, through the Gent and New Gent models, a dozen masterpieces in a lively and provocative style, spanning the various periods of art history, from Botticelli to Lichtenstein.

The first Swatch Art Journey collection is made up of seven models, belonging to the Swatch x MoMA, Swatch x Magritte, Swatch x Le Gallerie degli Uffizi and Swatch x Louvre Abu Dhabi. In particular, the artists being celebrated in these first new models are Roy Lichtenstein (on the occasion of the artist's 100th birthday), Sandro Botticelli and René Magritte (in the year of the 125th anniversary of the surrealist genius' birth). As well as Katsushika Hakusai, who 'meets' the astrolabe of Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Battûtî in a single timepiece.

Swatch's special relationship with art began in 1985 with the first in a long series of Art Special models. Over the years, the company has collaborated with some of the world's most famous museums, including a reinterpretation of some of their most famous masterpieces in the Museum Journey series.

On the subject of these new Swatch watches dedicated to the art world, Robin Sayette, Director of Business Development for MoMA, said: "We are delighted to continue our collaboration with Swatch and its wonderful watches celebrating the centenary of Roy Lichtenstein, a well-known artist who is well represented in MoMA's collection.

Prices95 to 105 euros (models dedicated to works from the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Uffizi Galleries will be available from 13 April).
