The talented watchmakers united under the brand name MB&F(Maximilian Büsser & Friends) to bring an innovative piece of winged watchmaking to life each year continues their work, which is now also being used for charitable purposes. A unique example of the HM2, created especially for the 'Only Watch' project in collaboration with Californian artist Sage Vaughn, will be auctioned in Monte Carlo on 24 September to help research against Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
The case of the Horological Machine No2 with its modular structure is inspired by the meccano with which Maximilian Büsser played as a child. The hand-finished 22-carat gold automatic rotor owes its unmistakable sickle shape to the space halberd wielded by his childhood comic book hero, Goldrake. The most famous science fiction television sagas, Star Trek, the Thunderbids, Doctor Who and Star Wars, have played a major role in MB&F's creations.
In this unique piece, an 18-carat gold butterfly soars over the bridge of the movement, the latter wrapped in barbed wire, symbolising the disease.
