Maranello, land of engines and... watches!

Maranello, terra di motori e… orologi!

An original idea lies behind the new Maranello brand. Very few people know, in fact, of the existence of a company set up by the Emilian municipality for the commercial exploitation of the name and symbol of the city of Maranello. And very few are those who have taken advantage of it so far, limiting themselves to the Maranello Caffè chain and, for the past few months, to the eponymous watchmaking brand.

Maurizio Mazzocchi, promoter of the new brand, has another record. He is the first Swiss manufacturer to declare the use, on some models in the line, of Chinese-made mechanical movements (including column-wheel chronographs). A choice that allows it to cover a very interesting price range for our market, from a few hundred euros upwards (the top models use ETA movements; in particular, the ETA-Valjoux 7750 for the chronographs), for strictly mechanical watches with an original design.

The first collection is called V8, after one of the most famous engines used in Formula One. A steel and carbon fibre case 45 millimetres in diameter for the chronograph, with tachymeter scale on the bezel, black dial with applied indexes and chrono counters for the hours at 6 o'clock and minutes at 12 o'clock. The strap is in black rubber personalised with the Maranello logo in red. More elegant is the model in steel with black and gold PVD treatment: a three-counter chronograph with a black dial. Both models in the photo are equipped with a mechanical movement with automatic winding decorated with an exclusive rotor reminiscent of the spokes of a vintage steering wheel, have a personalised case back with the inscription "City of Maranello" and are water-resistant to a pressure of 10 atmospheres.
