The first stage of the Girard-Perregaux Young Watchmakers Tour

On 1 May, the first stage of the 'Girard-Perregaux Young Watchmakers Tour' took place at Cipriani Dolci in New York, during which the launch of 'The New Face of Tradition' magazine took place, in both print and online versions, as already announced at the end of April on our blog page. The renowned American venue was transformed into a Swiss atelier, where guests were able to deepen their curiosity thanks to 'workshops' with four young watchmakers, who demonstrated the intricacies of the movements including practical lessons. In addition, this was also an opportunity to present the latest 2012 novelties and pieces from the Girard-Perregaux Museum. The watchmakers were photographed in different areas of New York City, where they demonstrated the art of creating time: Brooklyn Bridge, Time Square, Wall Street and many other prominent spots. The shots were taken while the watchmakers sat at their workbenches 'in the midst of the city that never sleeps'. "Girard-Perregaux is bringing the art of watchmaking into the 21st Century," says Michele Sofisti, CEO of Sowind (Girard-Perregaux and JeanRichard). "The photos taken of the young watchmakers in NYC, in the most renowned locations, show just that: tradition and innovation, a perfect combination that we cherish." The New Face of Tradition is an innovation in the field of luxury watchmaking, highlighting not only the work of these talented watchmakers in the La Chaux-de-Fonds manufacture, but also the different passions these artisans possess. From the rock & roll star, to the puzzle master, to the international alpine horn champion, these young watchmakers highlight their different facets, just like the Girard-Perregaux timepieces they create. The magazine is online at www.TheNewFaceofTradition.com, where one can discover the interests, passions and 'extra-work' activities of these young artisans. "Through this project, we want to highlight and recognise the talent that these young watchmakers possess," says Michele Sofisti. "Often, those who make watchmaking special never get the proper consideration and recognition. What you see in The New Face of Tradition is authentic. It is the reality of every day at Girard-Perregaux and we are proud of that." New York City is the first stop on the Girard-Perregaux Young Watchmakers Tour. Later this year, the international tour will be in Beijing, Paris and other cities.
