Audemars Piguet - Royal Oak Offshore Michael Schumacher

'There is a similarity between motor racing and watchmaking, mainly in the fact that it is essential to take care of the smallest details, because everything is connected'. These are the words of Michael Schumacher, motor racing legend, seven-time Formula 1 World Champion (including five consecutive, between 2000 and 2004, aboard Ferrari), who recently announced his farewell to racing at the end of this season. The new Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph Michael Schumacher was designed in collaboration with the German ace, and has a 44 millimetre diameter case, available in titanium (1,000 pieces), pink gold (500 pieces) or platinum (100 pieces). The bezel, on the other hand, is made of Cermet, a material seven times stronger than steel, and secured by eight oversized Allen screws. On the dial, along the peripheral tachymeter scale, the first seven indices are composed of two blue stars and seven in red, symbolising the seven world titles won by Schumacher, two with Benetton (1994 and 1995) and five with Ferrari (consecutively from 2000 to 2004). Other noteworthy details are the minute scale, which recalls a chequered flag, and the hands, which have a very unusual shape, inspired by the bodywork of a racing car. The movement used is the AP 3126/3840 calibre (21,600 vibrations per hour, 365 components, 59 jewels, 55-hour power reserve), a self-winding mechanical movement with a 22-carat gold oscillating weight.
