With Omega at the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea

Once again this year, Omega was the official timekeeper at the Pietro Mennea Golden Gala, the Italian leg of the Wanda Diamond League, which brings together all the world's best athletes, held in Rome on 9 June. Omega, which has supported the Diamond League since 2010, has an incredible track record in sports measurement, including 30 Olympic Games, since 1932. In addition to its timekeeping and data management functions over the decades, the brand has also developed and implemented much of the key technology in sports timekeeping, including state-of-the-art motion sensor technology to enhance the spectator experience.

It was during the Timekeeping tour, in the morning before the official races, that thanks to Omega we had the opportunity to learn about the development of timing systems in athletics: from the photofinish camera - which allows all runners to be filmed at the end of the race and captures, on a single photograph, the moment each athlete crosses the finish line - to the starter's gun, starting blocks and false start sensors.

An exciting 4×100 relay race on the Olympic athletics track in Rome saw us from L'Orologio involved with three other teams in a fun, friendly competition.
