Who does not remember the famous John Player Special livery typical of the Lotus Formula 1 cars of the 1970s and 1980s? Lately, several watch manufacturers have been reviving that happy colour contrast between black and gold in their collections.
These include De Bethune, who had already employed the JPS livery last year in the complex DB28GS JPS and now also in the new DB27 Titan Hawk, which extends the brand's entry level collection.
The case of the DB27 Titan Hawk JPS is made of zirconium and measures 43 mm in diameter by 9 mm in thickness. Note the positioning of the crown at 12 o'clock, as well as the presence of gold-plated titanium inserts at the four corners of the drilled and pivoting lugs.
The black guilloché-engraved dial with its 'microlight' motif (protected by a sapphire crystal with a hardness of 1,800 Vickers and double anti-reflective treatment) is divided into three parts in the central zone and houses stylised titanium hands in two tones, as well as gilded Roman hour markers and Arabic minute markers at five-minute intervals. Also of note, in the centre, is De Bethune's famous Delta motif.
The watch is driven by the IWC-manufactured AUTOV2 calibre (217 components, 29 jewels, 28,800 vibrations per hour, 60-hour power reserve), visible from the back side and equipped with an optimised titanium and white gold oscillating weight. The balance is also made of titanium and features white gold inserts (De Bethune patent). The black strap is made of leather and fabric, and is combined with a gold-plated grade 5 titanium pin buckle.
